Mark Book

The Mark Book section is aspreadsheet which collates the marks for all assignments and computes a final mark based on the weighting specified for each assignment. This data can them be exported in spreadsheet format as a CSV file which is readable by MicroSoft Excel and many other spreadsheet applications.

Columns in the Mark Book can be sorted by clicking on the heading. Their width can also be altered.

It was beyond the scope of the project to “seamlessly” integrate CAFAS with the various grade management systems and learning management systems used in tertiary institutions (e.g. Moodle, WebCT, Blackboard etc), however it is anticipated that the CSV export capability will enable uploading of CAFAS data into other instruments.

Rubric

The Rubric is a list of comments categorised by performance level. There is a list of descriptors for each assessment criterion. All the descriptors are editable, and a mark, defined by the user, is associated with each performance level. This is so that an overall mark/grade can be automatically calculated.

The image below shows an example of a "Penalty Criterion" in which the student will receive either no penalty, a 5 mark penalty or a 10 mark penalty.

A scroll bar appears on the right if more than 4 rows are used.

A Comments Box enables the user (assessor) to make specific comments if necessary.

Slider

The Slider is a horizontal bar with a pointer which is used to indicate how a student has performed for a particular assessment criterion.

Formative feedback can be provided by hiding the Slider and the mark/grade using the settings in Assignment Setup/Visibility Settings. Later, after students have responded to formative feedback and resubmitted their assignment, the Slider can be made visible and a summative mark/grade can be given along with more formative feedback in the comments box which can be editted further. This offers a useful method for measuring the student's ability to respond to feedback as the initial feedback comments are clearly visible during the subsequent summative feedback and assessment process.
